lighting design
In my lighting design, I create emotionally expressive spaces, which gently guide the viewer's attention throughout the show. I pay a lot of attention to the fluidity and rhythm of the light changes and to the close dialogue with other disciplines, let it be music, text, set design or choreography. My lighting adds a layer of visual intrigue and/or clarity and helps the emotional and intellectual content penetrate under the spectator's skin.

chosen works:
musical "FRÜHLINGSERWACHEN"
Theatre directing, Visual Concept and Lighting Design (Dynamo)
This project provided me with a unique opportunity to work simultaneously on scenography, directing, and lighting concept.
Light is seamlessly integrated into the set design, materialized by fog that hovers between the performers and the sculptural background. This lighting creates ephemeral shapes that define different spaces in the scenes, corresponding to the dynamic changes in the musical.
The background features a sculptural wall depicting roots and branches entangled within a metal grid. These organic shapes, reminiscent of intimate body parts, are trapped in the structure, mirroring the feverish yet playful theme of the piece. The 3-dimensionality is accentuated by grazing light from multiple directions.
The drama of the performance is highlighted through the generous use of side and diagonal backlighting on the actors. This technique creates clear, contrasted outlines of their profiles and isolates their figures from the background.
The cold, harsh light of institutions like schools and churches contrasts with the warm sunlight beams in natural spots, creating a refuge for the tormented young souls.
musical "AB IN DEN WALD"
Lighting Design (Theater Casino, Zug)
This lighting concept explores the contrast between two acts: the colorful, vibrant fairy tale world of the first act and the stark reality of life in the second, depicted with washed-out, gloomy colors.
A significant expressive element of the lighting is the cyclorama, featuring two rows of lights that create a gradient. The deliberately colored vastness of the "sky" sets the mood of each scene, with the moon projected onto the backdrop to enhance the ethereal atmosphere.
A unique lighting challenge was how to depict the apparition of a giant. My playful solution shows just the shadow of the giant's hairy leg, created through a custom-made GOBO, adding an element of whimsy to the production.
EVENT "FRAUMÜNSTERHOF 21"
Light Programming (Münsterhofplatz, Zürich)
I had a lot of fun programming lights for the Fraumünsterhof 2021 installation in the heart of Zurich - a beautiful initiative by creatrices.ch, ETH students, and SIA architects, celebrating the 50th anniversary of women's right to vote in Switzerland.
This lighting design is rooted in the gendered symbolism of red and blue and embraces all the colors in between. Like a living, independent creature, the installation breathes and changes moods, sleeps and wakes up in the morning, and its heart beats in the rhythm of hope for a better future for all. The light changes were fully automated, creating different appearances at specific times of the evening and night.
Working with saturated colors resulted in "illusory" color changes in the framed sky, reminding us that things are often not easily definable.
LECTURE-PERFORMANCE
"the PURE GOLD IS SeePING OUT OF ME"
Lighting Design (Nowy Teatr- Warsaw, Bora Bora-Aarhus,
Aerowaves - Paris )
I collaborated with performance artist Renata Piotrowska-Auffret, who explores the relationship between personal and professional life in her work. She examines female yearning through a network of reproduction policies, numerous promises, and attempts to exploit it.
My lighting design focused on the contrast between the clean white, cold "lecture" space, the warmer, more intimate space of the dance studio, and the strong, almost baroque effect of the performance's culmination point. I experimented with self-made GOBOs to bring a multitude of organic, iridescent shapes to the stage as a visual resolution to the white emptiness.
The grotesque performance at the culmination point was given additional power by the radical use of red light.
